Diversion
Team
of Wayne
County
One of the primary
goals of the Wayne County Family & Children First Council
is to increase family stability. A priority has been placed on
reducing the out of home/out of county placements of children.
Efforts have been made to impact these placements, yet much work
remains. The need for coordination across systems, protocols across
systems, and services as alternatives to placements have been
identified as barriers.
The project intends
to significantly impact the lives of children in Wayne County
that are identified as being at risk of removal from their homes.
To reduce the un-necessary and/or inappropriate out of home placements
of children, this project will (a.) enhance inter-system
coordination of services and sharing of resources, (b.)
facilitate access across systems to a range of diversion options
and to promote earlier and more effective intervention with at-risk
families.
Success in achieving
this goal will be evidenced by the following:
-
A
reduction in the overall number of out of home placements.
-
Greater
stability in foster care arrangements, as evidenced by a reduction
in the number of "blown" placements.
-
A
shortening of the length of stay of residential treatment
placements, by stepping down to less restrictive alternatives.
